Buying in Bulk
Our bulk section offers a great way to reduce waste and save money. Not only do our bulk bins offer lower prices, but they don't force you to buy in set amounts. It allows you to purchase goods in the quantities you need, while avoiding the waste of buying too much.
The reason most people choose to buy in bulk, however, is for the reduction in packaging waste. Not only is packaging a large contributor to the planet's landfills, you also have to take into consideration how much energy it takes to manufacture all those bags and boxes. It's pretty clear that bulk buying is more environmentally friendly than purchasing individually packaged goods. The Co-op also encourages you to bring your own reusable containers to lessen the environmental impact even more. (Plastic bags and containers are available for a small charge.)
Tip: If you have to purchase bags or containers from the Co-op, save them for re-stocking the same items. The weight and
PLU are probably already on them, which will make your next trip even easier!

How to Buy Our Bulk Goods
If you choose to bring in your own containers (which we greatly encourage), just bring them up to the counter when you arrive and someone will weigh them for you. This weight is then taken off when you check out so you only pay for the amount you purchase. Next, fill your bag or container with however much of the item you want. Be sure to write the PLU number (four digit code) on the outside of your container so when we check you out, we'll know what item you are purchasing.
Special ordering in large quantity is available for most of our bulk items.
